Joshua McLaughlin

President & Chair

Josh is the current President of SADC, where he supplies the horsepower behind our Public Relations and Existing Business Committee.  He is a lifetime resident of Houlton and works daily to promote the benefits of living and working in the region.  Josh is the president of J McLaughlin Construction, LLC, a heavy civil earthwork contracting firm, where he manages day-to-day operations.  He holds a Bachelor’s degree in construction management engineering from the University of Maine at Orono with a minor in business administration.  Josh attribute part of his success in business to other veteran business owners in town who have served as mentors willing to offer critical feedback and support when needed.

    Jon McLaughlin

    Executive Director

    Jon was born in Houlton, attended Houlton High School and graduated in 1977 from the University of Maine at Orono with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.

    He came back to Houlton and worked in the family business until it was sold in 1999, at which time, he was approached to run the newly formed development organization called the Southern Aroostook Development Corporation or as it is known – SADC. He received in 1999, his Certification as a Maine State Professional Economic Developer.

    Throughout his business career he has held many positions in local, county and state groups. He is a two-time past President of the Houlton Chamber of Commerce; past President of the Houlton Rotary Club and present club member; past Chairman and Director of the Houlton Planning Board; past Director of the Houlton Regional Hospital; past Chairman and Board Member of SAD 29 School Board; past Chairman and Board Member of Region Two School of Technology ( SAVE); current member of Northern Maine Community College’s President’s Advisory Board; current member of Northern Maine Development Commission’s Loan Review Committee; past President of Leaders Encouraging Aroostook Development; past Chairman and current member of the Aroostook Committee of the Maine Community Foundation and past member of the Aroostook Partnership for Progress.

      Chris Anderson

      Board Member, Past President

      Chris is a founding member of SADC and works daily to promote the merits of living in Aroostook County and running a business in Northern Maine.  He is active in Leaders Encouraging Aroostook Development (LEAD) and Aroostook Partnership for Progress (APP).  As President of F.A. Peabody Company (FAPCO), Chris oversees a privately held, family corporation with roots dating back to 1927 in the Town of Houlton. FAPCO started as a property casualty insurance agency, but over the years has expanded and diversified into real estate brokerage, travel services, life, health and group benefits, investment management, risk management services, and third-party administration and broadband internet services.  With 8 sales offices from Calais to Presque Isle, Chris covers the immense geography of Northern Maine and has an intimate knowledge of the people and ideals of the region.

      Kristi Brannen

      Board Member

      Kristi owns and operates SADC’s 2013 Business of the Year, Spring Break Maple and Honey in Smyrna with her husband, Kevin.  Like many small business owners, she wears many hats, overseeing processing and production, finance management, human resources, and marketing.  Along with an extensive resume of volunteer experiences, Kristi is very active in trade organizations.  She holds memberships in the Maine Maple Producers Association, Maine Beekeepers Association, Maine Organic Farmers and Growers Association, Small Woodlot Owners Association, and is a member of the Maine Tree Farmers.  Kristi, through her business, has an intimate relationship with the forested landscape of Northern Maine; this relationship carries over to the rest of her life.

      Doug Callnan

      Board Member

      For over three decades, Doug has owned and operated Agri-Cal, Inc, a company that buys and sells grain across the Northeast and beyond.  Along with purchasing and brokering product, Doug also handles his own logistics.  When he is not working, Doug spends a good portion of his time in the wilds of Maine’s forests.  He enjoys skiing, climbing, hiking, and never allows the temperature or season prevent him from tackling a trip into the woods or up a mountain.  Doug is on the Baxter State Park Advisory Board, President of Chiputneticook Lakes International Conservancy, and participates in several other professional and community organizations.

          Peter Chase

          Board Member, Past President

          A transplant from the central Maine area, Peter has lived in southern Aroostook for the past 35 years. After obtaining a BS in forest engineering from UMO, he was employed with Cianbro Corporation. Upon completion of the construction of the Louisiana Pacific OSB mill in New Limerick, Maine, he was hired by LP as plant superintendent. He rose quickly to operations manager for northeast oriented strand board as well as the gypsum fiberboard facilities. Ten years later he embarked on his own venture as president of Buildings Etcetera, a general contracting company serving northern Maine. He resides in New Limerick with his wife, Kathy ,where they have raised three fine young men who have all earned engineering degrees.

            Scott Dionne

            Board Member, Past President

            Though Scott lives in Mars Hill and grew up in Caribou, he has been an active part of Southern Aroostook for several years.  Whether serving on the agricultural fair board, as Houlton Rotary President, or  as SADC President, he strives to help wherever he can.  Scott works as a branch manager for S.W. Collins Company, a retail lumber and hardware firm with retail stores in Lincoln, Houlton, Presque Isle, and Caribou.  Scott’s formal education is in journalism and environmental engineering, but the lumber business has always had a strong hold on him.  He started working in the retail lumber business when he was 16 years old and enjoys the challenges that follow a career in sales. 

              Chris Fitzpatrick

              Board Member

              Chris is the Executive Vice President of Business Banking at Machias Savings Bank in Houlton. He is in charge of all business banking activities across Maine. Chris is a graduate of University of Maine in Orono with a BS in Agricultural and Resource Economics and attended the New England School of Banking at William’s College.

                    Fred Grant

                    Board Member

                    A native of Houlton, Fred returned to Southern Aroostook in 2005 after spending 12 years working in higher education serving at Adelphi University and Babson College as the Director of Campus Life.  In addition to his experience in higher ed, Fred is also the owner of an internet based business, CollegeHelpers.com which he created in 2000 to help college students find part-time employment.  In 2011 he purchased WHOU 100.1 FM in Houlton, Maine, one of the last privately owned radio stations in the State.  Fred earned a degree in Music from the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford and later earned and MBA from Adelphi University.  He now lives in Houlton with his family and servers in multiple organizations including Rotary, McGill’s Community Band and the SAD #29 School Board.

                    Carl Lord Jr.

                    Board Member

                    Carl has lived in Houlton most of his life.  He has a background in high pressure boilers, and currently works as the On-Site Maintenance Supervisor for the Houlton and Orient Ports of Entry and Hodgdon Border Patrol.  Carl’s civic interests are extensive.  He has served on the Houlton Roads Advisory Committee, as the chairman of the Zoning Board, on the Board of Assessment Appeals, and on the Houlton Police Chief Selection Committee.  He is a member of the chamber of commerce and has great passion for economic and community development.

                      Krista K. Putnam

                      Board Member

                      Krista is the Vice President of Marketing for Katahdin Trust Company where she is responsible for advertising, research, contribution, public relations, online marketing efforts and company branding.  Her professional background is extensive.  She holds a Business Administration Degree from Husson University, graduated from both Northern New England School of Banking and the American Bankers Association’s School of Bank Marketing and Management, along with earning a Bank Marketing Diploma and General Banking Diploma from Northern New England Center for Financial Training.  As a dynamic business professional, Krista offers a good deal of horsepower to SADC.  Her great attention to detail and ability to communicate effectively through media have brought SADC’s efforts in public relations to a new level.  Her enthusiasm for promoting Aroostook County has its foundation in a strong desire to see her children not only grow up here, but to remain in northern Maine for a lifetime.

                        Terry Wade

                        Terry is the former plant manager of Smith & Wesson in Houlton where he oversaw the production of guns and handcuffs.  Though retired, he remains a consultant for the company, offering over 4 decades of experience with the company.  To say Terry is civic minded is an understatement.  He cares deeply about the region and has volunteered much of his time to SADC, his hometown of Monticello where he has served as a selectman and member of the volunteer fire department, and as an overall ambassador of Aroostook County.  His positive attitude coupled with a lifetime of experience interacting with Northern Maine’s workforce make him an asset to development in Northern Maine.

                            Jerry is one of the founding members of SADC.  He promotes Southern Aroostook as an ideal place to run a business, raise a family, and recreate throughout his travels.  He holds a Bachelor’s degree in business administration and serves as the general manager of his family’s car dealership and vehicle service center, York’s of Houlton.  Though he seeks greener fairways in Florida for a brief time on occasion, he remains firmly planted in Houlton where he and his wife, Jane, built a new home in 2014.

                                As Executive Director of Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce, Jane holds a position as one of SADC’s ex-officio members.  Her knowledge of area businesses and people are a great asset to SADC, often guiding us toward solutions and area opportunities.  Jane’s tireless work promoting the area led to her receiving SADC’s Presidential Award in 2013.  If a group is hosting an event to assist business in Houlton, you can rest assured Jane is or has been part of that group.  She has served as County Co-op and Farm Store Vice President, Community Market Treasurer, and Houlton Rotary Sargeant-at-Arms and Vice President, along with serving on Houlton’s Planning Board, the Riverfront Committee, and Moosestompers Committee.
