Transportation in southern Aroostook County

Air Service

Houlton International Airport serves the area with private and corporate aircraft services. Aircraft with one hour’s notice are able to clear customs directly at the airport.

Northern Maine Regional in Presque Isle with several daily commercial flights to Bangor, Portland and Boston to connecting flights.

Roads/Highways

1,125 miles of roadway in northern Maine and Interstate 95 provide vital links to markets throughout southern Aroostook. Interstate 95 begins at Houlton.

U.S. Route 1, a two-lane undivided highway, serves as the major north to south route for eastern Aroostook Country from Houlton to Fort Kent.

Railways

The Maine Northern Railway (MNR) provides dependable transportation for products into Canada and New England.
